WE AIM TO UPLIFT MALE EDUCATORS OF COLOR THAT ARE COMMITTED TO EDUCATION, EQUITY AND ADVANCEMENT.
Luminary Leaders Apprenticeship Program is dedicated to equitable education, striving for economic and social mobility for our students and Leader's. A diverse education workforce is key for all students, especially students of color. There is a growing racial disparity in our primary and secondary education system, with over 90% of teachers being non-African American or Latino and more than half of the students being of color.
LLAP was created to diversify the education pipeline and address issues that impact low literacy rates within minority communities by offering literacy tutoring services to children throughout Maricopa County. Our program also offers resources for boys and young men of color (BYMOC), such as careers, training, academic resources, motivation, skill-building, mentoring and a chance to connect with fellow cohort members and experienced educators.
Our Luminary leaders are housed within Maricopa County school district classrooms year round. Recipients of our program are children ages three to seven years old and young men of color over the age of eighteen.

WHAT IS THE LUMINARY LEADER'S APPRENTICESHIP PROGRAM
Research shows that male educators impact the lives of all students but historically there have been barriers preventing them from pursuing a career in education. Some of the barriers that disproportionately impact potential male educators of color are post-secondary program costs, exam fees, and personal expenses while transitioning into the field of education. This is where LLAP comes in.
Our apprenticeship was designed to address barriers that inhibit aspiring male educators from entering the classroom and school system. Our Leaders are paid employees that receive a competitive wage along with career preparation resources. Understanding the diversity gap in education, TRA offers the opportunity to build community & fellowship with other brothers and a network of Black and Brown male educators to provide a solution to the feeling of isolation.
No Experience Necessary
Previous education experience is not necessary to qualify for our apprenticeship program. As an apprenticeship program we expect most trainees to have little to no experience. Our program is designed to introduce leaders to the education field. Utilizing training, classroom, and personal & professional experiences, we aim to give our leaders the tools to discover their interests and prepare them for a career pathway in an apprenticeship program, entering the workforce, joining a community, additional technical training, and enrolling in college or university.
