Building Readers. Building Leaders. Building the Future.

At The Reading Alliance (TRA), our work goes beyond literacy. We partner with schools, districts, and families to deliver evidence-based instruction, mentorship, workforce development, and engaging programs that help every child thrive. Our initiatives are rooted in the science of reading, enhanced by social-emotional learning and culturally responsive practices, and designed to transform not just students, but entire communities.

ABCs to Reading

Framework & Kits

What it is: A Science-of-Reading-aligned framework with two tracks—Cornerstone (foundations) and Capstone (advanced decoding & connected text).
What you get: Instructor guides, decodables, routines for phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension; fidelity coaching and progress checks.
Why it works: Coherent lessons + repeatable routines keep instruction consistent across classrooms and grades.

SMILE Program

Mentorship Fellowship (18–26)

What it is: A paid pathway that trains young adults to become Literacy Instructional Assistants (LIAs).
What you get: Training in classroom routines, culture, and safety; coaching; school placements; clear growth milestones.
Why it works: Students see near-peer role models, teachers get real support, and fellows build careers in education.

Reading Rangers

After-School • Summer • Online Tutoring

What it is: Joyful, small-group learning blocks that reinforce decoding, fluency, and comprehension on campus or at home.
What you get: Lesson scripts, decodables, weekly progress monitoring, and take-home routines families can actually do.
Why it works: Short, consistent practice turns “guessing” into real reading—without burning out staff or families.

Pathways

Workforce & Talent for Schools

What it is: Recruit, vet, train, and place LIAs and support staff with service levels and compliance you can trust.
What you get: Candidate pipelines, onboarding, site coaching, attendance & performance reporting, and replacement SLAs.
Why it works: You get trained people when you need them—so small-group time starts on time and stays on task.

TRA Background.png

"The Reading Alliance programs work together to do more than teach children how to read—they build confident learners, develop future leaders, and give schools the tools to create lasting change."

Procurement & Compliance

Vendor onboarding, background checks, insurance, data-sharing agreements, and safety protocols are standard. ESA guidance provided for families.

Implementation Models

  • School-Day Push-In: LIAs run decoding/fluency blocks during literacy.

  • After-School & Summer: Reading Rangers in 60–90 minute sessions, 2–4 days/week.

  • Online Tutoring: Short, consistent sessions for PreK–3 with take-home routines.

  • Train-the-Trainer: Build internal capacity with leader and coach development.
