Reading Rangers™
Leading the Way to Literacy
Reading Rangers™ — Young Leaders Guidin’ the Next Generation to Read and Roar.
Young men stepping into classrooms, building readers and changing lives. Reading Rangers™ train up the next generation of leaders who teach with heart, purpose, and pride.

Empower Readers. Build Leaders. Transform Communities.
Reading Rangers™ is The Reading Alliance’s nationally recognized literacy mentoring program that trains and employs young men (ages 18–26) to serve as tutors in local schools, microschools, and community classrooms.
Each Ranger is trained in the Science of Reading, ROOTS of Learning, and Early Literacy Indicators (ELIs) to deliver high-impact, culturally responsive reading support for PreK–3 students — while gaining professional development, mentorship, and purpose.
Reading Rangers™ isn’t just a literacy program — it’s a movement that builds readers and future educators.

Our Mission
To develop a diverse, skilled, and confident literacy workforce that transforms the reading outcomes of young learners — especially in African American, Latino, and Indigenous communities across Arizona and beyond.
We believe literacy is more than letters and sounds — it’s the pathway to selfhood, leadership, and opportunity.

Why It Matters
In many schools, young boys of color rarely see men who look like them leading learning spaces. Reading Rangers™ changes that.
By developing young male educators and mentors, TRA is breaking cycles — giving students academic role models and giving young adults access to training, certification, and career pathways in education, literacy, and community development.
Our impact is twofold:
-
Children become confident, fluent readers.
-
Rangers become confident, purpose-driven leaders.
