About The Reading Alliance
Our Mission
The Reading Alliance's mission is to increase student reading proficiency rates by the end of third grade.
Our Vision
The Reading Alliance's vision is for children to have the tools to decode words, understand vocabulary and comprehend the meaning of sentences and paragraphs.
Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging
The Reading Alliance is committed to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging (DEIB). We are transforming inequitable social structures within education by placing men of color in early education. Everyone must be represented in order to increase our children's reading proficiency rate.
BIG Facts

How We Began
The Reading Alliance was founded in response to the challenge of improving the reading proficiency scores in K-3 students while diversifying the teacher pipeline with men of color in Arizona. Through our partnership with local districts, charter schools and parents, we've managed to increase our reach by implementing a research and evidence-based reading proficiency model that supports the advancement of all students.

WHEN BLACK AND LATINO STUDENTS HAVE BLACK TEACHERS, THEY DO BETTER IN SCHOOL.
Nonetheless, there are no teachers of color in 40% of public schools. The differences in teacher diversity are even more pronounced in urban, high-poverty areas.
The historic, systematic exclusion of Black men and women from the national teacher pipeline presents both enormous need and enormous opportunity.
