OUR TUTORING MODEL

The Reading Alliance develops our tutors professionally in a manner that echoes our mission to increase reading proficiency rates by the end of third grade utilizing evidence-aligned reading instruction.

Our tutoring model ensures early literacy success for all children by employing equitable, evidence-based, and rigorously researched training and coaching for tutors.

We provide our tutors with intensive training, support, and coaching.

Our tutoring model is a professional learning framework for educators who work with young children. Using a unique combination of training, coaching, and professional learning communities, our framework empowers tutors with the knowledge to develop oral language, emergent literacy, and social & emotional skills in all three to five year olds, setting them up for success.

TRA tutors receive approximately 60 hours of training including foundations of literacy, reading interventions, assessments, progress monitoring, data-based decision making, and positive behavior management from our internal staff members. Tutors also receive regular, ongoing mentoring at their tutoring site from The Reading Alliance Coaches and Program Staff.

In School-based Tutoring Option

The Reading Alliance has ongoing partnerships with local public and private schools. We place our tutors in the classroom to work alongside of the instructional leader and provide additional support to the student. Our model may include whole class instruction, small group intervention, and one-on-one interventions which is based on the tutors weekly scheduled strategic meetings with instructional leaders.

Out-of-school Based Tutoring Option

The Reading Alliance offers an out-of-school tutoring service for parents needing additional educational assistance for their children. One of the many benefits of taking advantage of this model is students are in a more relaxed and familiar environment (typically in their own home) allowing them to improve at a faster rate with one-on-one instruction tailored to their individual needs.

IMMERSION TUTORING

High-frequency, high-impact tutoring is a data-supported framework for helping students make significant, measurable academic gains.

  • Research-based: A proven framework that improves child literacy rates by 3rd grade.

  • 4 time/week: Our program nurtures children's language, literacy and social & emotional skills.

  • Accelerated Learning: Our immersion tutoring closes the literacy gap and improves matriculation rates.
