Luminary Leader: Literacy Instructional Assistant

The Reading Alliance (TRA) is leading Arizona’s literacy transformation — and we’re looking for dedicated, passionate individuals to join our team as Literacy Instructional Assistants (LIAs).


As an LIA, you’ll play a hands-on role in helping children learn to read using Science of Reading-aligned routines and TRA’s proven ROOTS of Learning™ framework. This position is ideal for aspiring educators, youth mentors, or anyone passionate about empowering the next generation of readers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver small-group literacy instruction in grades PreK–3 using TRA’s ABCs to Reading curriculum and structured routines.

  • Support lead teachers and coaches by implementing phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension lessons.

  • Track student progress through PELI/DIBELS assessments, daily data sheets, and weekly reports.

  • Participate in weekly coaching sessions and professional development focused on the Science of Reading, classroom management, and early literacy practices.

  • Maintain a positive, culturally responsive classroom environment aligned with TRA’s ROOTS of Learning™ model — promoting Resilience, Opportunity, Observation, Training, and Self-Belief.

  • Communicate regularly with site leads, coaches, and program administrators regarding attendance, student progress, and instructional needs.

Schedule & Placement

  • 4 instructional days per week (approximately 5 hours/day).

  • 1 weekly professional development and coaching day.

  • Placements available across Phoenix and surrounding districts, microschools, and community literacy sites.
